Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road

This week on Car Talk, we shared the Vatican's new 10 Commandments for driving. (And no, we're not kidding. You can read them here.)

And, well, temptation got the better of us. So, we had no choice but to add a few of our own, too!

Now it's your turn. What "Thou Shalt Not" would you add to Rome's Top 10? Share it right here.

Honoring thy mechanic's boat payment due date,

Tom and Ray

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou shalt not drive in the left most lane on the highway except to pass. if the left most lane is a turn lane, then the path shall not be called a highway, and the left most lane shall not be used for passing, lest wrath of the state troopers come down from on high.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Yes, it is true. I was driving out to California from Texas and a State Trooper stopped my wife and I because I was driving on the left lane...I had never seen that sign and yes they did give me a ticket! not cool.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
They should give more tickets like this.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou shalt not pass laws reserving the left lane for passing. It reduces the road capacity by 1800 cars per hour.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou shalt not roadrage-tailgate cars driving in the left-hand lane, and thou shalt not ignore the fact that highways often have left-hand exits.

Thou shalt not fard [sic--look it up in your Funk & Wagnall's. Hint: it's nowhere near Sonje Henne's tutu] in public.

Neither shall thou sport pro-environment bumper stickers on thy SUV, lest thou be consigned to the outer darkness.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
I wholeheartedly agree to the posting. Do NOT put a "Save the Planet" sticker on your gas guzzling SUV! That's as much of an oxymoron as "Military Intelligence".

Worse - it's as much an oxymoron as vacation Bible school.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou shalt not drive all the way to the end of the closed lane before cutting in front of meek who have patiently been waiting in the open lane (otherwise the vengeance of Meek will be upon you when they inherit the earth)

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Lo, for chris1 is a false prophet and his words fall against the eyes and upon the ears as blasphemy.

For there shall not be many but one true merge point. A closed lane is a cursed blight for which none are to blame. All shall be set right if drivers patiently allow merging in turn at point of confluence.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Lo, for chris1 is a TRUE prophet and those that say otherwise are blasphemous. Prophet Chris1 suffered 40 years (well ok only 20 years so far) at hands of those cursed drivers who did not merge at the point of confluence and cut the poor prophet off at the end of closed lane.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou art a true Judas as thou could only be driving a very few years being only 20 years old. So how does thou come to a true appreciation of the truly annoying tactic of cutting thou off many times???
by: chris1 06/29/2007 10:29:26 AM
Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Even though being a true prophet Chris1 could not driveth since he was 1 years oldth! Chris1 picketeth chariot license at 16 and since dirveth/wonderth for 20 years in the wilderness of roadth

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
A true prophet is he who stareth not at his hood ornament but beholdeth the orange signs and flashing arrows to be seen in their righteous glory for many thousand yards giving ample warning to getteth your asseth over.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Nor should ye expect the right lane to part like the Red Sea because thou put on thy turn signal.

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
Thou should if thou is in a vehicle with a V8 engine and muscled thou's way in!!!

To the annoyance of those poor sods patiently waiting!!!

Re: Pope's 10 Commandments of the Road
According to law, it's illegal to pass a car on the right when it is signaling a right turn. It is also illegal to pass a car on the left after it signals a left turn. So the line of cars MUST let in the lane-changing driver.
