Yes, we do have a parade and we do have a rodeo, one of the biggest & best with most money given out in all of North America for top cowboys & cowgirls, and we do put on jeans, cowboy hats & shirts....but it's mainly for tourists....get it Mr. Alda...we're not doing this every day just for 10 days during July. I am born & raised in Calgary, I am not a cowboy, I live in a regular house, I drive a car, I work in an office tower, but this is a fun time for our city, a chance to let our hair down & we invite ALL people from every corner of the world to come & visit us during Stampede! We do not torture cows, there are some events which are not as "animal-sensative" as maybe PETA would like, however, it is part of our past and we would enjoy you visiting us again when you're not working to see what it's all about...as obviously you didn't get the whole jist of what we're about up here. As for "sketch" neighbourhoods, I lived in LA for a year & was scared to walk anywhere at night, at least in Calgary you don't have gangs of thugs walking around trying to rob you. For a city of over a million people, Calgary is still "small-town" to some & we love to call it home.

Alan Alda found Calgary 'strange'

HOLLYWOOD -- Alan Alda put the boot to the Stampede.

Best-remembered for TV's M*A*S*H, Alda was in the city last summer filming Resurrecting The Champ with Samuel L. Jackson and Josh Hartnett.

"Calgary was a very strange town," Alda said. "We were filming there during their rodeo -- what do they call it? -- the Stampede. I was surprised there were a million people in Calgary -- and every one of them dressed up like a cowboy .... You'd turn on the news -- this lasted for 10 days -- and there they are in cowboy shirts telling you how many people died in Iraq. That was the strangest thing I ever saw. And then in the evening, you could watch them torturing little calves, grabbing and throwing them on the ground ... And then they give them prizes for that."

Hartnett had kinder words.

He didn't see much of Calgary because of the work schedule, but said he enjoyed Banff and Lake Louise.

He said Stampede revellers sometimes drowned out dialogue on the set.

"There were some surprisingly sketchy neighbourhoods in Calgary. At night, it got a little colourful," he said.

KTOG TV in St. Petersburg, FL, has dropped a televangelist from its program lineup after complaints from a Muslim group.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A Christian televangelist who harshly criticizes Islam and other religions said Friday that his late-night program is being pulled off the air because of pressure from a Muslim group.

Earlier this month, officials from the Council on American Islamic Relations wrote a letter to the TV station’s owners asking for an investigation of the show it broadcasts, “Live Prayer with Bill Keller.” In a May 2 broadcast, the televangelist said Islam was a “1,400-year-old lie from the pits of hell” and called the Prophet Mohammed a “murdering pedophile.” He also called the Koran a “book of fables and a book of lies.”

The Rev. Keller claims that his message is “Bible-based.” Keller learned all about the Bible at Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University, where he studied after he was released from prison.

Perhaps he’s an equal-opportunity bigot. Earlier this year, Keller commented on Mitt Romney’s campaign for the Presidency:

“Romney getting elected president will ultimately lead millions of souls to the eternal flames of hell!

Keller’s program is broadcast exclusively on secular TV stations, usually in the wee hours of the morning.
