I believe that he will bring a new tone of civility both to Washington and to the world. His unique background -- being multi-racial, having lived in both an island setting and an urban environment, and having experienced life in other countries -- positions him to identify with and bring together diverse and often warring factions. While Obama often describes himself as a “mutt,” it actually goes much deeper than that. He’s a racial, cultural, and geographic mash-up, who seems almost a living metaphor of the global era that we now inhabit.
Here's a blog entry I wrote that discusses this further: http://ste...obama.html
I hope that our leaders will move away from the mentality of individualism and self-interest to one of community (global and local). The past 8 years have been overwhelmed with "what is best for ME" and not "what is best for US." I hope President Obama, having a world view, will make the changes needed to welcome our past "enemies" into the family of humankind, all interdependent on each other and the environment we live in.
i find it very disturbing that we elected this man the messiah who is supposed to have all the answers and the first problem that comes along he tunes it all over to nancy looney toones pelosi and the rest of the entrenched officials to come up with the fix????????? i thought the messiah was going to fix everything????? i cant b the only one in complete awe over this. seems to me there is no change same old politicians creating more bearucracy in this country. our own speaker of the house and most left wingers don't even believe in the first amendment by that i mean trying to get the so called fairness doctrine rein-acted we have truly lost our way and everyone is oblivious. if we dont wake up and use common sense we r lost forever
