Re: Giving Your Kids a Healthy Head Start

hello, my name is Brian Mayrsohn and over here at Vanderbilt University, we are doing just that. A year and half ago, I started an organization called Healthy Head Start. We go into schools and after school programs to teach the youth of Nashville the importance of eating healthy and living a healthy and active lifestyle. We bring healthy (good tasting) snacks, fruits, veggies, and healthy meals for these happy go lucky kids, who are not given the same opportunities as children from more privileged socioeconomic class. I was wondering, if there are any grants out there that support organizations such as this one.

Some even believe that communicating with their child while still inside their mother's womb is an effective way to develop the kid's talent/s. I'm not even sure how effective this way is. Most doctors recommend and encourage parents to let their child these ways to develop their full growth potential even at a younger age.

conversational hypnosis

Giving Your Kids a Healthy Head Start

Early interventions can give kids a head start on good health. For example, research shows that breastfeeding may reduce disease and obesity in children.

What do you think is the most important way to give kids a head start on a healthy life? If you are a parent, what was most important to you when your child was young?

Making sure he ate right? Reading to her every night before bed? Getting accepted into pre-school?

And, as a parent, what did/do you struggle with, in terms of giving your child the head start you want for him/her?

Is it too hard to get her into pre-school? Is feeding him the healthiest food too expensive? Are good doctors few and far between? Is it hard to find the time to spend one-on-one with your child?

Share your thoughts below!

KQED's Community Guidelines
