Re: Re: Prop 8: Same-Sex Marriage Ban

Oh my! This is one sad story or a messed up individual. But they do exist - once in a while - these weird hybrids: The Jewish Nazi, the Black Ku kluks klan, the Transman homophobe, - you name it.

Ever thought of the possibilities that were opened to you by the activities of the GLBT people you just kicked in the neck? Between 40 to 50% of straight marriages end in divorce by the way.

And look at all those straight people that tell you to 'honor the sacred body that God gave you and not to mess with it. It's sacred." So you better stop messing with it! Now, how does that feel? - It's not what I say, or the GLBT. It's your straight Christibans friends.

But I have observed that women who (try) to change into a man have this intense and sometimes irresistible urge to do and act extra manly and I guess hurting gay people feels to
you just like that. I tell you: it doesn't make you more of a man. Quite on the contrary.

If I may suggest: you should affiliate yourself - preferably with the body part that is located between your ears. Sorry, but this is the real world and not a puppet house.

Last week one of my red-neck colleagues (a straight friend of yours) said with mockery: "The black man disappoints everyone, every time, everywhere."
Normally I would have spoken up vigorously - but I remembered what you did and just kept quiet.

Re: How Has the Election Changed You?

I don't know anything about that show or type of media event it was.
But I know this: When people voted, they had a choice when it said:

"Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry."
And it was made clear that this would enter the states constitution (!)

7 out of 10 black people voted YES to this (according to exit polls).
They had a choice to take away a right or to leave us alone at the least. Those
70% of black people chose to take the existing right away from gay people
in California.

There is no point in discussing why they did this (homophobes, anger,
vengeful, religious excuses, 'republican values', or because they did what
Obama told them to do: that gay people should not be allowed to
marry in his 'personal' opinion) - All utterly irrelevant.

The simple point is that the vast majority of black people do not want
to be associated with gay people (black or any color) and they
don't want us to associate with them. They want apartheid between
gay people and them.

The entire elaboration about Civil Rights versus (supposedly lesser relevant) Civil Liberties
we hear now from (black) people is just another way of saying: we want apartheid.
"We are in this valuable category and you gay people are in the less valuable compartment."
- they have spoken with their vote.

We gay people (black or any color) should take the message as what it is. Black people
don't like us. They voted overwhelmingly that gay people will be 'put in their place' by
writing it in the constitution of this state: that gay people are of lesser value.

The much greater lesson lies in the realization that helping the
oppressed may well end up with them oppressing you with a vengeance
when they feel that they reached the mountain top.

To them, to be free may only mean to gain the right to hurt back
at those who happen to be within reach of their boots. You could say:
We gay people got the boot. (if you can muster the irony)

Gay people should not expect anything from Obama. He clearly thinks and feels
of gay people as people of lesser value. When he says: "...we as a people..." you can hear
in the echo: '...but not exactly the gay people...'.

That I liked about the other guy: McCain. He tells us in the face - clear and honest - that
he doesn't want us around. There is something preferable about an open enemy. It's hard
to pinpoint.

Re: Re: Prop 8: Same-Sex Marriage Ban

This is a particularly interesting statement that made me think and remember. When I came to the USA (where "U" stands for 'united') I quickly learned more about its history. I came across the amazing story of a woman by the name "Rosa Louise Parks". Oh, she lived a long life, from 1913 to 2005 and certainly has seen changes, good and bad. One day she wouldn't obey the law that the majority had voted for. That law said that she and people like her (that were all those with darker skin) had to give up their seat on the bus for people with lighter skin.

The bus driver James Blake ordered her to obey the law - after all, the majority was behind it. He probably said something like this: "I see Mrs. Parks, you oppose this law, but will you (please) accept the fact that the majority of citizens are not ready to embrace your ideology." He may have added: "Probably, in time they will. But for now the majority has spoken and let's respect that." Well, he didn't say that according to the records we have. He was not as polite. He just 'ordered' her to move. Rosa Louise Parks however refused. How disrespectful, you may say.

Today Rosa is called: "Mother of the Modern-Day Cicil Rights Movement"
What Rosa L. Parks comprehended was this: That it was the bus driver and the majority who were disrespectful, disrespectful in a much more fundamental way. She undertsood "That all men are created equal" (T. Jefferson) and should not be judged by ...."BUT the content of their character" (Martin Luther King).

I do not believe that she thought of her life and existence as an 'ideology' that could be declared expendable by the majority and surely she right to disrespect such disrespect.

Actually, when I first read about Rosa L. Parks, I didn't believe it was real. Born 1960 in Germany it was simply impossible for me to believe that a people would be able to come up with the utterly absurd idea to make laws that say "you can sit on these seats on the bus but you can NOT sit on these seats "for the color of your hair". But this is really part of the history of the USA!
Ha! Imagine gays put ballots on the list like these absurd ones:
1. Obese people are prohibited from procreating.
2. All voters have to pass a math test before being allowed to vote.
3. Gay people - and all(!) other 2nd class citizens - have to pay less tax (less rights, less tax)
4. Gay people don't have to pay any tax that goes towards the children of heterosexual families
5. ....and other nonsense that - with enough twisting and redirecting - may actually be voted for by the majority.
I apologize for these last few 'suggestions'. I did not want to offend anyone. These discussion groups are a limited media. When you meet people in person (blacks, obese, gays, heteros, Jews, etc.) and have to look them in the eye then its quite different. It may end up with FALLING IN LOVE!
It is all too EASY to be a bigot in the voting booth.

All the best to the good hearts and learning minds!
