Polls show the former Arkansas Governor currently has 12% support in the early caucus state.
Does Mike Huckabee have a real chance of becoming president?
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee continues to confound the pundits by attracting support for his Republican presidential campaign without a lot of money. A recent poll showed him running third in Iowa with 12% support, ahead of Rudy Giuliani's 11%.
Do you think Huckabee has a real chance of winning the Republican nomination? If he does, how does he stack up against Hillary Clinton and the other leading Democrats? Is tiny Hope, Arkansas in line to send a second native son to the White House?
Yes, Huck's got a shot at the nomination. Here's why the GOP could run him: If Hillary gets the Dem's nod, moderate Dem's will flee to the alternative in the Presidential election, and if it's Huck they'd find him palatable enough to vote for..any port in a storm. Many blacks won't turn out unless Obama is on the the ticket, so Hillary can't really count on them. Black voters are increasingly skeptical of Dem's promises and resent their vote being taken for granted by liberals. Despite the prevailing assumption that Hillary would get the female vote, lots of women can't stand her. She's not a bullet-proof candidate. Like him or not, Huck may be the best in the field at getting free media, and he performs well when he's on camera. He and Mitt Romney are best liked by the Christian conservatives and if they still have control of he party, Huck could be the man.. the second "Man from Hope."
He would not be the first silver-tongued charlatan to reach that level. But in his case, an act of god would be required . . . and it would have to be an act of just the right god among the 15,000 or so gods floating around out there in religionland these days. Pretty long odds.
