Should Arkansas remove the rest of the sales tax on groceries?
This year, the Arkansas General Assembly voted to remove half the state's sales tax on groceries, but Governor Mike Beebe says removing the rest of the tax depends on state revenues.
Do you think the state should remove the rest of the grocery tax in the 2009 legislative session?
Yes, we should remove the rest of grocery tax but only when we identify replacement funds. I do not wish to see St. Government programs reduced or eliminated to pay for the reduction.
Yes, we should eliminate the remaining grocery tax. It is a regressive tax and disproportionately affects the poor. Critics argue that cutting the remaining tax will only save the average family a few hundred dollars. But considering that Arkansas spars with Mississippi for the lowest average household income each year, that 'few hundred dollars' could make a big difference in the quality of life for thousands of Arkansas' poorest families.
