Are You Born to Run?
What\'s your running story? Have you sustained many injuries? Do you delight in a long-distance run?

I just finished this book and have been running differently since I did. I run trails and run 4-6 miles 3-4 times a week. After one run I wanted to yell because it felt so good but since it was 7:30in the morning on a Saturday I restrained myself. The book was interesting on so many levels, the evolutionary discussion and the shoe discussion especially. It reminded me that when my children were young I put socks but not shoes on them because I\'d read in "Mothering" magazine that children needed to constantly adjust through their feet and ankles to get their balance and motion. It all makes so much sense, I, too, was born without shoes on.

I thought this was one of the most fascinating radio interviews I have heard in a long time. I run a couple miles 4 or 5 times a week (nothing major, just enough to run for a half hour to exercise) and I absolutely hate it. My calves always cramp up after just a few minutes, so the rest of my jog is spent trying to keep myself from stopping because of my aching calves. This only happens to me when I\'m distance running—when I sprint I feel fine. Listening to the program it started to make me wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I have probably been running wrong. I also found scott carrier\'s story to be pretty amazing (I went to This American Life\'s website and listened to the whole thing), it must be an incredible experience to try and run down a dear. That makes hunting sound like an actual sport! :-).

Radio West listeners, you\'re lucky. Doug Fabrizio\'s interview with me about my book, "Born to Run" was, hands-down, the smartest, most insightful conversation i\'ve ever had on the subject. At one point, he even startled me with an observation that was sharper and more poetic than my own attempt to express the same thought in my book -- and i had 3 years to work on it! Thanks for your attention, and thanks especially to Doug and Radio West.
