Wednesday on RadioWest, we're live from the Hinckley Institute of Politics with post election analysis. We're joined by Kirk Jowers of the Hinckley Institute, pollster Dan Jones, and Brigham Young University political scientist Quin Monson to see how Utah voted and why.
Taking Stock of the 2008 Election
With the 2008 election finally at a close, how are you thinking about the choices we've made? Are you happy with the outcome? Concerned about the future?
I thought that the Mormon church, and other religion's interference in CA politics, is woeful!!! I hope CA rewrites the law and overturns it again. And that the IRS finally decides to honor the separation of church and state and taxes all their income! We need the money in Utah coffers in this poor economy.
I would like to hear your guests discuss the role of the media in elections in Utah this year. In my mind, there was extremely little coverage of any of the races on the local level, but an inordinate amount devoted to the Presidential race given our state's political make-up. There was maybe one or two stories every month about the Congressional, State Executive, or State Legislative races, and maybe one or two stories for the whole cycle devoted to legislative or county elections. What can be done to solve this problem besides seemingly fruitless letters to editors and news directors? Thank you.
I am curious, and correct me if I am wrong, but isn’t President Bush the one who instigated and passed the financial bailout, that in effect socialized banking? How can we say that Barack Obama is the socialist, when all he is doing is taking over for a system already corrupt and owned by the government because of the bailout.
I was surprised at how moved I was when Barack Obama brought out his wife, Michelle and his daughters Sasha and Melea on stage last night after his victory. It let myself fully embrace that this family will be new face of the white house in the upcoming four years and I was proud. He should be proud too, at running a campaign that brought out so many new faces and invigorated those that have felt so marginalized and disillusioned for so long. I look forward to watching his children grow up in the White House.
There is one positive aspect of Barack Obama that hasn't been included in the main storyline. When the death of Obama's grandmother was reported the other day, part of her biography included the fact she worked in an airplane assembly plant during World War II. This reminded me of that legendary working class heroine, Rosie the Riveter. With an Obama victory, it's almost like Rosie the Riveter's grandson becoming President. Is that a real American story or what?
In my opinion, here are the real issues. The issues that are being obscured by all this sillyness. The sillyness that keeps people from having real debates over real issues.
Here's where most of the money for Obama's campaign came from
http://www...=N00009638 Is it any coincidence Goldman Sachs comes in 2nd?
The contributions are listed as employee contributions, but Employers send around emails and pressure employees to donate for particular candidates all the time.
Here's a guy who was fired for not donating to Mitt Romney's campaign

Barack Obama allowed laws in Illinois to weaken so Nuclear Power plants were not required to report leaks ]http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/us/politics/03exelon.html?_r=2&oref=slogin
"When residents in Illinois voiced outrage two years ago upon learning that the Exelon Corporation had not disclosed radioactive leaks at one of its nuclear plants, the state’s freshman senator, Barack Obama, took up their cause."
“Senator Obama’s staff was sending us copies of the bill to review, and we could see it weakening with each successive draft,” said Joe Cosgrove, a park district director in Will County, Ill., where low-level radioactive runoff had turned up in groundwater. “The teeth were just taken out of it.”
I was not a John McBush supporter. I do agree with Ralph Nader. Dems need to raise their standers.
The real power in the political system is getting involved at the caucus and primary level. Here's how the political system works http://www.../caucus101 I post this link so people can learn how to make real change take place.
Obama may not be quite the fascist Bush is, but change will be an illusion. Warm fuzzies in themselves won't bring real change.
P.S.
Here is why Obama and John McCain's idea to send troops into Afghanistan is such a bad idea
http://mrx...ohn-pilger Watch John Pilger's Breaking the Silence. This film takes a look at the history of the war on terror, US and British interventionism.
Obama's campaign team called the Canadian Ambassador and told him Obama would take some swings at NAFTA, but don't worry "it's just campaign rhetoric."
