Deciding on the Voucher Referendum

Are you a parent making a decision about your child's education? How do you plan to vote on the Utah's Referendum 1? Will it make a difference in what school you send her to?

Re: Deciding on the Voucher Referendum
While I do not believe Mr. Piatt's Truth Test Report was biased, I do believe it was shoddily reported. Many have pointed out the major inaccuracies within Mr. Piatt's report, from obviously anti-voucher sources, but whose claims are justified. Look at this letter, purportedly from Kim Burningham to KSL's news director (perhaps Mr. Piatt can confirm the authenticity of the post?); even if it is not from Mr. Burningham, it clearly points out the holes in the original KSL story.
I would like Mr. Piatt to explain his reasoning behind this report. Specifically: where does he get the idea the voucher program is an "experiment," considering there is no such language in the bills? Where is it required that schools be actually accredited, teachers have college degrees or have credentials? I was disappointed that Mr. Piatt left before he could stand by his reporting, more than he has done in the past. Perhaps the other reporters could comment on the accuracy of Mr. Piatt's report?

Re: Deciding on the Voucher Referendum
I have been told that the vouchers could finance the private school started by Warren Jeffs at Hillsdale. I understand that most families are already supported by public funds through welfare: single parent families--civil divorsed but religiously qualified polygamy unions-- who will have a whole brood of qualifying kids to get voucher scholarships. Is this true?

Re: Deciding on the Voucher Referendum
One more thing. Why is saying "No" to referendum One supposed to be anti-Republican when it was the Republicans that got NCLB (No Child Left Behind) mandating teachers to be highly qualified--having a teacher certification in what they teach for example? Now the vouchers say private schools can hire someone with just a college degree or with "expertise". What task force will they have to hire with our taxes that will have to qualify "experts" and make sure private schools keep up standards?
Are pro-vouchers scaring Mormons to believe they will be anti mormon/republican by following some liberal union in the east (isn't this just the national education association?--a teacher's union?) if they vote no to this referendum? Explain that please.
