What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?

President Obama has been getting lots of advice as he takes office. What advice would you give to him that would help our state?

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
1. Energize Green Technology for our state - especially wind & water energy.
2. Encourage businesses to come to Michigan as a place of growth potential and discourage outsourcing of business to other countries.
3. Stick to your guns on what you think. Your confidence in us as a country will be the biggest bonus to help our state. A good economy for one = a good economy for all.

Obama should invest more in the auto industry.

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
1. Get an international treaty on Cap & Trade for carbon credits - too many Michigan jobs go overseas to avoid dealing with U.S. or Michigan environmental/pollution laws this may encourage the whole world to play on a level environmental playing field
2. Tax Credits for manufacturing R&D or, more limted, environmental R&D or environmental mfg or simply for consumers buying a U.S. assembled vehicle
3. take Granholm to Washington - no, just joking, he needs to fix the mortgage/housing mess and allow/encourage/force banks to start lending again

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
(1) First and foremost, have Treasury staunch the bleeding of the foreclosure crisis. (2) Create tax/lending incentives for business to re-tool the existing manufacturing base to produce the hardware needed for wind/wave energy, to expand the energy grid, for new battery technology, and for hybrid/electric cars. (3) Promote community reorganization to compact/consolidate Detroit into a liveable size city with a tax base that can sustain it, creating job along the way. We're behind you 100%, Sir. We have the tools, we have the talent -- let's get busy!

Wind and solar power require large amounts of LOCAL manufacturing. Michigan has a rich history of manufacturing. WE manufactured the driving force of the 1900s. If President Obama can encourage wind and solar use throughout the country, Michigan can again seize the moment to manufacture the future and be a home to new technologies in the 2000s.

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
I'm not sure that Michigan DESERVES a bigger handout than any other state. I am very disappointed with the Governor, John Dingel, the auto companies and our do-nothing legislators. Much of Michigan's problems are self-inflicted, but here are three things I think could help (besides the infrastructure things):

1) Provide a lot more science grants to Michigan researchers.
2) Provide special grants to entrepreneurs pursuing new high-tech manufacturing and alternative energy technologies.
3) Offer grants to allow attracting highly talented artists, musicians, scientists, inventors, educators, engineers and entrepreneurs to the state (as we have done to incentivize film making). Emphasize attracting talented INDIVIDUALS rather than 'fickle' corporations.

This will be the only way to ensure finding the next Fords, Apples, Microsofts, Googles, Ebays, HPs, Teslas, etc. Ask yourself why Michigan doesn't seem to be able to create new companies like this.

Do what we voted for him to do, Change the way government works. For the past 8yrs we saw first hand what looking out for the rich and stepping on the poor will do for this country.
Listen to common sense, and not any "party lie".
Promote education, especially in math and science.

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
That's the wrong question. To paraphrase JFK: ask not what Obama can do for Michigan, but what Michigan can do for itself. Which is plenty. I just watched a long story about grass roots initiatives in Detroit, which makes exactly that case: www.flypmedia.com.

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
1. force the banks to start lending, this will help start up businesses, existing businesses and residents to keep functioning.

2. continue to promote green energy, Michigan is poised to become a major player. if we can export our green products to other states and countries we all win.

3. spend half of his presidency living in Michigan. so film studios will come to Michigan when they produce movies about him. ~ my suggested last ditch effort. haha

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
1.Protect out industry by giving out huge tax cuts for people and government agencies who buy fuel efficient cars from American companies.

2.Even stricter laws against water diversion and bottled water.

3.Prosecuting George Bush for war crimes, torture, illegal war,and gross neglect.

Re: What three things could President Obama do to help Michigan?
1. Force American corporations to operate in America and shut down overseas plants.

2. Cut down on the billions of our tax dollars spent on wars (much of it wasted on corrupt corporations that don't think twice about cheating us out of our hard-earned tax money to line thier pocketbooks) to free up money to invest in education, health care, and other essential social needs.

3. Start fulfilling his campaign promises regarding government transparency before he gets voted out in four years.
