Re: Re: All PRI shows
no investigation would be necessary if they used a technology like equilcurrency.com.

Re: All PRI shows
I listen to your show on my morning and afternoon drives. In the last two days I've heard what appears to be the PRI call letters in a foreign language. What exactly is that?

Re: Colombia Ecuador
Marco

Just a little remainder, trying to accused Ecuador of not doing "enouhg" to control the border with Colombia, is like saying USA is not doing enough to control the crossing of undocummented people from Mexico. Consider that the border between USA and Mexico there is a paved road a long the border, great techonology and lots of money. In contrast, Ecuador faces 3000 Miles of jungle, little technology and of course little money.

Ecuador has dismantled more than 50 guerrilla camps and capture more than a docen of fighters, all that, with NO USA economic support.
Colombia receives almost 1 billon of dolars per YEAR from USA.

Ecuador simply is protecting its land and its sovereignty, and Colombia is trying to get him and the whole country in a problem that Uribe has not been able to solved with money for years. After all, in Colombia is where the drugs are produced, packed, transported, and exported under his onw land and eye.

Ecuador was trying to help in the process of releasing Ingrid and more than 12 people. And now, because Reyes is dead any future negotiations with the FARC will be more complicated since the little trust between Colombia and the FARC is gone. Was Uribe trying to have a peaceful resolution or negotiation or trying to keep this internal war alive.

Re: All PRI shows
I am truly stunned! This morning I read that the network had received a number of complaints about a four-day segment dealing with conservatism. After listening to segment after segment after hour after hour after month after month after year after year of Liberal unreal drivel - to read that a number of your listeners are so incredibly shallow and insecure that they won't listen to alternative views - - - is simply incredible - or bizarre - or insane. It defies belief.

Re: Re: All PRI shows
Actually, I believe you're thinking of "All Things Considered", which is an NPR program, not PRI.

Re: All PRI shows
Although I usually enjoy the show, I was rather annoyed about the seal killing discussion in Fair Game; it was in bad taste. They talked about it lightly as if it was a joke when it is really a serious and cruel practice.

Re: All PRI shows
"The Sound of Young America" should be more than the predominant male voice. Perhaps it's just been coincidence that the several times I've heard the show, its been wholly men on the show, men narrating, men interviewed, but I'm put off that the 'sound' is at least 90 percent male. I'm sure there are some women featured on the show, but as a young, female American, I feel it is disproportionate and as a PRI fan I'm very dissapointed. I feel the title of the show is misleading when the sound of the other gender, the other half of young America, is relatively absent. If the show were retitled "The Sound of Young Male America", that would be more accurate.

Re: All PRI shows
I heard a story about the conversations of taxi drivers in Cairo which were compiled into a book which became a huge success in Egypt since released in 2006. The book is now getting in the US market. It was a very interesting story. I would like to know how could I get that piece in an audio format, say Mp3's to be re transmitted completely in a conversational broadcast I am producing this coming Saturday in Wynwood, Miami.
It's an art exhibit but at the end of the show I plan to project images in key note documents with corporations/organizations in which I have special interest and desire to promote through other non traditional mediums. PRI and NPR are examples.

Re: All PRI shows
Hello!, I heard just one sentence of medium Lisa Williams talking about some legislation that would affect mediums who give advice to their clients? I heard so little that I can't say what it was about, and I am interested to hear more. How might I hear the whole interview?
All i heard was the host joking that since these are psychics who are affected, should they not have seen it coming? Haha!
I am curious to hear the whole interview?

Olney Show - Isreal Lobby and Obama
To Warren Olney-

Here is my letter to Caroline Glick who I heard on your show tonight. This hold by Isreal and their lobby on our government and middle east policy is killing us. We must become a neutral peace broker/enforcer. Bravo Jimmy Carter!

My letter to Ms. Glick - I just heard you on the Warren Olney Program - casting aspersions at Barack Obama, and conducting general fear mongering. Are you for real? I'm shocked at such a close minded rant about Barack not being 'pro Isreal enough'. This beat the drum for Isreal - and 'Everyone is out to destroy us' - has got to stop - it is exactly what's putting the U.S. at risk. Yes the jewish people have been massacred over history - with the holocaust the most awful example - but becoming so obsessed with your own destruction - with one of the worlds largest and most powerful militaries - is delusional and self destructive. You and your U.S. pro Isreal lobby are dragging this country down into your violent morass as well. This nation must be a neutral broker and be as concerned for Isreal and its victims of terror, as for the people driven from their homes, locked into a prison without autonomy, air or sea space, and forced to go through check points to go about their lives. Why do you think the extremist elements find support for their terrorist tactics? Do you really think this is the way Isreal can have a lasting peace? Build a giant wall and take more of their land? As long as Isreal steps on the Palestinian people you cannot possibly hope for a moderate leadership to emerge within the Palestinians and you will get war and terror in return.

You don't see the American interest in forcing a peace and a state for the stateless people? Really. You think a State recognized and brought into the community of nations and economies will be more dangerous than the veritable prison of rightsless people that is the West Bank and Gaza that you stand over now? Do you think jihadism comes out of a vacuum? How many woman and children has Isreal killed vs. Hamas. How many women and children has the U.S. killed? How do you explain the culture of jihad in Palestine - is it just in the Arabs nature - or could it have something to do with their hopeless situtation that empowers radicals - a situation enforced by Isreal.

If you are an Isreali citizen - what business do you have in attacking our candidate for president at not being 'pro Isreal enough'. If your views are predominant in Isreal - then your country is in deep trouble - and you are dragging our mindless administration down with you. Isrealis rave on and on about the katusha (sp?) rockets....but just do some math Ms. Glick - how many Palestinian civilians have you killed - vs how many of your Civilians have been killed? That disparity tells the story - and why peace can never come from the course you are on.

If Isreal stops being so belligerent and aggressive - perhaps there will be no love for the radical jihadist terrorists that you produce. Isreal doesn't deserve Terror - but as the prosperous and powerful entity you are the ones who can solve it through strength and restraint - not killing, harassing and imprisoning a people.

This neutral American wishes to see justice and peace for both sides - not propaganda and lack of dialogue and arm twisting from Isreal and Aipac. You won't meet with Jimmy Carter because he dares to meet with Hamas? Really? Your position is against what America should be about and for. I and, I feel, a growing number of Americans reject it.

Thanks-

Larry

Re: All PRI shows
I tried adding my note to the comments on the United Nations Show on "THE WORLD" but it would not let me. Something wrong with the website that is supposed to take comments. But here it is:

Every "well researched report" allowed in the US media by a reporter from country that has a sick colonial past (namely UK) should be tempered by an opposing view. The accusations against Forign armies which may have their share of corruption, not unlike the British Army (often mostly made up of non-British brave soldiers namely the imported Gurkhas from the "colonies" and a enriched officer core (again often comprising of brave soldiers) from the home-country) should have been wetted for content and purpose before Lisa Mullins aired it on American Radio. To not do so is a waste of taxpayer money that funds PBS and PRI. For PRI to also say in the same corresponding article that the BBC is a well respected News Organization; a view I do fully agree with, is a horrible use of journalist leeway to propagate the British journalist's colonial-era views. How un-American not to recognize this type of colonian manipulation. Does anyone believe that most Armies do not have a corrupt minority however small. Do you think the Bitish became rich only be being pontificatingly uncorrupt? The article may have some merit, but it is a shameful use of the American Public Radio System in a manner which has caused me to focus on the writer - much more than the terrible things going-on in the Congo. Sorry you ran it. Please run an article which will help the situation in Congo not cause people like me to react to such journalists with our own biases and issues.

Re: All PRI shows
We do not make ethanol from food grade corn or beans. Field corn and soybeans are not what are in the cans and frozen bags at your local grocery store. Making bio-fuels from these sources is not the long term answer we need, but it's a start for an emerging technology. Cutting back on ethanol now will not lower food prices but it will raise the price of gas.

Re: This American Life
hi. i recently met someone who highly recommended an episode of This American Life which featured a thrown-together ensemble of musicians playing their interpretation of an Elton John song. can anyone help me find which episode it is?
by: Anonymous 08/12/2008 7:19:46 AM
Re: Re: This American Life
Elton John song "Rocket Man" that was produced for episode 223 (10.11.2002), "Classifieds", and released as an MP3. The song was performed by a "one day band" composed of musicians looking for work in the classifieds. The band, consisting of various performers (one played a Theremin), met and practiced for only one day before recording the song.

Re: All PRI shows
Hello-- Regarding the "Security in Iraq" segment of The World, on May 5th, I listened with interest to the comments of Mohammed Manjapour, identified as a BBC analyst by your host. What I found troubling was his disinformation about the role and status of Hezbollah in Iran... his statement contrasting Hezbollah in Lebanon (where, by the way, it is busy taking over that country by force of arms) versus its home in Iran, in which he says it (Hezbollah) is merely a "slogan," a "concept," and not at all an organized group in Iran is a patent lie. As a quick reference , just go to the film interviews conducted by Ted Koppel for his recent documentary, "Iran--the Most Dangerous Nation," for the Discovery Channel. In one segment, Koppel interviewed a person who self-identifed himself as both an Iranian government official, AND a Hezbollah spokesman. To conclude, my I listen all the time, and I offer my warm congratulations to PRI and The World, and BBC for receiving awards for high-quality programming... BUT, you must look harder at the "experts" you interview, and if they cannot be vetted as independent, you should come up with some sort of disclaimer for the veracity --or lack thereof--of the people interviewed!

The Takeaway
Just awful. Shallow, jarring, annoying. Please take it away.
by: Anonymous 05/27/2008 7:01:16 AM
Re: The Takeaway
The reason that I listen to Morning Edition and other NPR shows is because it doesn't adhere to the usual network TV and radio format. To create a new radio show that adheres to the ubiquitous TV and radio format, eg, banter between 2 hosts, call-ins about mundane matters, is disappointing and a turn-off and tune-out. I switch stations and find the 2nd half of Morning Edition.

And thanks for canceling Fair Game. What an uninteresting and annoying show that was. Though the show attempted humor, it was very contrived and consistently not funny and Faith's voice was Valley-Girlish.
by: Anonymous 06/01/2008 8:42:10 AM
Re: Re: The Takeaway
I always enjoyed Fair Game's nightly product. Occasionally some of the bits were a little contrived, but the format wasn't always set up for radio. When Fair Game was on it was as good as any other show on my local NPR station (certainly above Car Talk).

As for Faith's voice being "Valley-Girlish" that's simply your impression. Her voice was one thing that made that show so appealing. When she had a guest host subbing for her it really wasn't the same.

I, for one, am really disappointed by the move to cancel a really creative show.
