As a lifelong listener to Public Radio who happens to be a 54 yr old progressive born and raised in conservative Utah, I was profoundly disappointed to hear of PRI's cancellation of Fair Game.
A year ago I moved to Tucson, AZ finding the public radio offerings so mundane and lackluster that rather than contributing to local fund drives I choose renew and pay for XM satellite Public Radio and listen online.
Among my online stations is KCPW, S.L.C., Utah, the first station I heard a "Fair Game" broadcast. Initially I was put off by the program I have grown to appreciate the unique perspective it offers. Often surprising, unexpected, and unique I have become an avid listener.
I regret PRI's decision. I will continue to support KCPW financially even though I no longer live in the KCPW market. The station has tremendous local programming, daring offerings, great local political coverage, all on a bare bones budget.
I loved Faith Salie and Fair Game. It has become my favorite show on the radio. It should not have been canceled. Whatever can be done to get it back on the air should be done.
Huge mistake!! It was the best thing on WNYC in NY and I listen and have been an avid listener for about 20 years. Bring back Faith!!! She's, really smart, really informative, really funny, and really entertaining.
I just worked out that "Fair Game" is being dropped off the air. I thought my station had just moved it. I'm crushed. I bought a FM tuner card for my computer just so I could record it and never miss a show. There are many intelligent and funny shows in the public radio universe, but I've heard none that were so unapologetically intelligent and so wickedly funny. Alongside the funny bits were some of the better in-depth interviews on serious topics I've heard. Even the most pointed humor betrayed a great sense of humanity. Public radio is, by definition a niche market. Please be kind to us in the niche.
What a mistake PRI! You don't realize what you have in Fair Game. You are holding a key to the future and you are throwing it away. This show has a unique voice. It is getting better and better. Faith had some interviews that were better than Terri Gross'.
I just heard. This is outrageous!!! Fair Game is THE BEST show on public radio. And Faith Salie is an outstanding talent. This is a huge mistake PRI. I urge you to reconsider. (Salt Lake City, KCPW)
Fair Game was among the best things on public radio. I am very sad that it has been canceled. I'll still listen to public radio, but it just won't be the same. Please consider giving Fair Game another chance!
Are you people nuts? "Fair Game with Faith Salie" was the perfect balance of news, interview, and adult satire. Why is it so hard to keep something above the bland or mundane on the air in this country?
I'm upset that Fair Game was canceled. It was a great blend of the types of shows the younger market liked and it actually aired daily; not subjugated to the weekend. There was little else that was distinctly cheery during the week and now there is nothing else. I hope Fair Game is not lost for ever.
Fair Game with Faith Salie was unique and entertaining - two things that must bug the heck out of public radio executives. They're good at producing safe, cookie-cutter, humorless "news" shows.
Public radio could screw up a rock fight. Bad job PRI once again.
