It's Bahasa for Man (Orang) of the Forest (Utan). Pretty simple stuff. On a recent World piece, the reporter continually mispronounced the word. I may be touchy, but I find it belies a lack of research. Even Alex Trebek makes sure his pronunciations are correct when he reads a clue on Jeopardy!.
You talk about lack of research but that is what I see in your comment. First Orang stands for Person (not man). Second it is Hutan (not utan) for Forest. In Malay and Indonesia they originally did not assigned one word to the apes they simply called them Orang Huntans. It was first adapted to one word in the English language and WAS translated to Orangutang both dropping the "h" and adding the "g" as well as combining the two words to form the one. In the native language they do hyphenate the words and drop the "h" resulting in Orang-Utan but if you are trying to be politically correct you may as well reject even their version as not being accurate. Translations from one language to another can have very similar basics but have different spelling, pronunciation etc. so the English version was not incorrect, though it is slowly leaning away from that usage recently.
Finally someone who knows what their talking about! Everyone I know says their Orangutang's But I know thier wrong. I am a monkey lover so I pay attention to this kind of stuff.
This is a message from Jesus. Who gives a damn how it's spelled. You have a hell of a problem on your hands. The world's population now stands at 6 Billion 800 Million people. Experts say thast by the year 2050 the world's population will be somewhere around 9 Billion 100 Million people. That is a hugh increase of 2 Billion 300 Million people in just 41 short years. So if you want to worry about something worry about something important. Don't worry about how a word is spelled. If you do not stop creating and tell your children not to create then your future generations are headed for a total disaster. It won't be sex that destroyes the world but it will be what you create through sex that will. So have sex but DON'T CREATE!!! Remember that less is better. To much of one thing is not good. That goes for the population too. Spread this message to the entire world. I am 100% sure that your future generations will appreciate not being created. Jesus
Yea spelling is the less of the problems. Did jesus speak these words to you???? or did we read a book writen by man ummmmmmm man hasn't been the best human or living thing on this planet lets see killing of the indians blacks and any one else that might be a little different from thee but oh wait one, white black yellow we all bleed the same die the same.
