One week ago, I heard a program on Public Radio International, where they were trying to translate an expression from Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan President.
Last February 28th, Chavez, marked by his characteristic offensive and vulgar language, has sent twice President Obama to wash his jacket (vaya a lavarse ese palto, Sr. Obama). Chavez used a pun. The actual Venezuelan profanity is “Go to wash your ass” and the correct translation would be “Fuck you, Mr. Obama”.
In addition, he asked somebody to translate this expression.
Chavez wants to be a Caudillo, a Latin American populist leader, which was a very common figure in first half past century. He is permanently looking for support from the ignorant, the weakminded and from delinquents. He speaks their slang. He constantly recurs to bikers for terrorizing the opposition in big cities, especially the middle class. In his almost daily long speeches, Chavez feeds hate and resentment to all over Latin America. That is the language of Venezuelan Diplomacy.
Pres. Chavez is already the freely elected leader of a democratic country. He doesn't need to look for the support of the ignorant and weak minded like you. He already counts on his comfortable electoral majority.Try this for slang 'You're an idiot propagandist liar".
Your language is the best example of what are we talking about. On the other hand,it is true that Chavez was elected by a democratic country ten years ago. But as soon as he got the power he started to destroy Democracy, Institutions and the whole country. He became a populist dictator. Only the ignorant believe that is Democracy.
