In May 2006 the U.S. Senate approved the construction of fencing along the southern border with Mexico. The move formed part of an immigration bill which is currently stalled in Congress. Here and there the construction of the fence runs into local resistance.

Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?

Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
No. I'd rather see a 700 mile high fence around Washington DC.

We need both of them. I approve of the fence, but have some reservations about the environmental issues surrounding it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
That is sad and uncalled for. I am trying to understand if your city or country is so poor why not think about cutting back on children until you find a better way of supporting them. Also, maybe you and everyone else needs to bring your concerns to the government. Write someone, media (there or here in the US). Either way we all suffer. No one is asking you to stop your culture of increasing family, but think about your opportunities for a better life by making it better first. American citizens are suffering as well, so how do you expect for us to have a 100% sympathy for your country. We are suffering from the war, health care, everything. We can not afford to live the way we used to because of whats going on. So what makes you think it will be better over here now. One honest thing to say is some American people do not mind legal immigrations coming to the United States, meaning going through proper channels. They are the ones who has the right to demand freedom not the ones who put their lives in danger. Its not worth it. Think about making a change in your country. Yes, you probally have corrupt officials. Is there any way to over throw them? I know there has to be more people who want a change to take a risk to overthrow the controllers you allow to stay. Come together for once. Don't demand anything if you enter the country wrong and stop multiplying and relying on LEGAL CITIZENS to foot the bill. By the way, immigrants did not build America. Not sorry about that. My grandfather and greatfather told us about railroads, buildings they built throughout the US. As far as making a $1.00 a day that is not living that is degrading to yourself and what you believe it. I will agree on that one. All I am saying is find a way somehow LEGALLY to turn your situation around. I can not afford to have more kids because of my situation but I learn to handle what I have before doing anything else. I would love to visit Chili one day and by then I pray things will change for he better. Stand together by speaking out for what you believe in. Do it in codes among each other. You do not have to go to school for that think. If some of you live here in the US legally why aren't any of your fellow people helping out the country, trying to build it back up? 95% of UNITED STATES CITIZENS ARE PRAYING FOR A CHANGE. UNFORTUNATELY AS TOLD IN THE BIBLE THIS HAS TO COME TO PAST. Until then I have to do what I have to do to get where I am going. You do the same. Pulling for you.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
You act like all illegal immigrants do is take money from your pockets. What you dont realize is that they pay taxes also. When they go to a store and buy something they are charged a tax, its not like they are exempt from these taxes. Without immigrants the U.S. economy would suffer greatly, as we all know they do the jobs legal citizens do not want or are to lazy to do. Companies benefit from these hardworking individuals because without them they would not be able to keep enough people to fill all the jobs. Where I live all the industrial jobs are constantly in need of people, because they do not employ illegals, most legal citizens (whites, blacks) simply do not want to do these jobs even though they pay good, yet you have people claiming they cannot find a job because illegals are taking them all. This country is becoming a land of lazy selfish people that expect the government to take care of them just because their ancestors were slaves.

If they go to the store and buy something. More likely is when they go to the store and steal something they do not pay taxes.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
omg! they are living in total poverty in south america and ur whining about have to sell one of ur eight cars!!! (just an exageration) but still, we have a much more stable economy here in the US than anywhere else! if they want to com to the US, they'll find a way. no 700 mile fence can change that! why do we try so hard to keep the rest of the world out of our little patch of land? America has been displayed as the land of oppurtunity for hundreds of years. however, our nation of IMMIGRANTS has become too greedy and decided too keep all of the wealth for themselves. i do not approve of illegal immigration either, but the US is not letting enough immigrants in. they need to raise that figure!!!

i agree with you 100%. This country has become to greedy. The head leaders in this country, oil producers, both sides of the government republicans and democrats everything and everyone. Seeing that the border is like 2400 miles long not 700. Its not gonna help either way

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
1)Your perception of the viable options for citizens from all countries, including our own, for improving public corruption is a bit naive. We know how difficult it is in the US to change government. It’s proportionally more difficult to do so in countries where corruption is much more wide spread. It’s possible, but it takes time. Many people don’t want to wait.
2)We’re not suffering in the US the same way many people throughout the rest of the world are.
3)Legal channels for immigration to the US are expensive and very lengthy.
4)“Is there any way to over-throw them?” “Pull together for once.” - You’ve got to be kidding me.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
it is a fact that most illegals come here so that they can survive....you can't except them to understand our culture or embrace it. They truly are powerless, uneducated and living in the most
corrupt country in the world and often come here instead of starving. We need to take programs of education and aid to Mexico. When we let people starve or have poor quality of life then we hurt ourselves because that allows a ripe situation for others to hurt us....i. e the Talaban or other
groups can go in and feed them and convert them to causes that are less than holy. We have to look at
the big picture when it comes to poverty.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
All immagrants who has come to the United States were fleeing poverty and oppression. However, they come legally.I'm very sympathetic to the plight of the Mexican. It may be time for an uprising, a govermental change by the people towards the corrupt government that has their foot on the necks of it's people.Mexico is rich in oil and as a government should make every effort to advance it's people. By advancement i don't mean, enter illegally remain, draw medical, education and other sources from the American citizen. Let us not be ignorant, some one is footing the bill for the millions that live here and deplete America. It is the American citizen who pays taxes, from all directions to support the illegal families that has broken the law and entered. As the American medical system collapses under the weight of illegal immigration, the Mexican reaps our wealth and sends it back to Mexico.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
I'm sure about a billion Indians and a billion Chinese would love an open border policy too. Would you mind if they camped out on your front yard while they take your job for pennies a day? A wall is just a gift for favored contractors. I'd prefer to bring our boys and girls home from the quagmire we created in Iraq and arm our borders and beaches, then consider anyone crossing without proper paperwork an insurgent which is exactly what they are. Meanwhile, we have over a million people in prison that can pick our onions for us.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexi
Americans will take jobs that pay living wages and comply with OSHA and other regulations. I do not believe that companies hiring illegal immigrants are paying the illegals market wages, providing safe working conditions, complying with labor laws, and paying the government social security taxes, etc. Take the landscaping industry for example. Maybe the company needs to pay an American $15 an hour to mow lawns. The cost is passed on and you pay maybe $50 to have your grass cut. If you can't afford it, mow it yourself. Don't expect everyone else's labor to be cheap except your own.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
Oh, I think you'll get your wish. Only Americans aren't going to have to move to see those conditions. There being pushed upon us by those who think that the individual American consumes and has more than most any others in the world. You hear about people afraid of losing their jobs. Is the number of illegal immigrants entering America going down? I would venture to say no. I still see quite of few of them employed and from personal experience some bosses prefer to have them. So, I'm guessing that if, times are bad for Americans but somehow an illegal work force is still thriving. Freakin A right its time to build the fence! We should have a good neighbor policy. And right now, Mexico is not being a good neighbor. Here's what I think our government should do as a last good gesture to Mexico. Build the wall using their work force and send each one of the home.

How could you not sympathize for a guy who makes 10 bucks a week and could come here and make 10 bucks an hour. I could get it if, they had some appreciation for America. I've worked with a few and none of them want to stay here. They want to earn as much as they can and go back home or run drugs accross the border. Call me a liar! You can't do it! So, that means Mexico has a poverty issue and the corrupt and wealthy in Mexico don't have the heart to share their wealth. So you can point that finger right back at yourself!

How do you know? Did you personally check their papers? Or are you just assuming anyone with a Hispanic appearance is here illegally?

Nicole101: For your information undocumented immigrants are not eligible for social services under FEDERAL Law except in the event of a medical emergency or minor child. You appear to be just another idiot who thinks that 'because they are brown they illegal' who doesn't have a CLUE what they are talking about. Show me your facts!

Re: Re: Re: Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
"I lift my lamp beside the golden door." So many deliberately leave this line off when commenting on the Statue of Liberty's plaque. The golden door. Enter through the golden door and you will be welcome. Enter unwelcome through the back door and suffer the consequences of illegal actions. ALL illegal aliens need to return home. Build the fence on both borders.
