Read the whole storyImmigration reform

Senators in Washington have blocked an immigration bill sponsored by President Bush that could have led to 12 million illegal immigrants being granted US citizenship. The Senate voted against keeping the bill alive, effectively delaying action on the immigration issue until after the 2008 presidential election.

If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?

Are you glad the current bill failed in the Senate? What's your alternative? What kind of reform would you prefer? President Bush says, "The American people understand the status quo is unacceptable when it comes to our immigration laws," so what should happen now?

Make fluency in English a major priority.

Overturn EO13166.
That's Executive order 13166, dictated by Clinton in the last days of his administration, along with the Richepardon. EO13166 requires all local government agencies to provide services in any language the recepient desires. Under threat of suit.

I agree when you come into this country, English should be the language you speak and adhere to. Are we not all immigrants?

Get yours straight, we are not talking about immigrants, we are talking about illegal immigrants. They were not included in that census.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
Uh-duh===== Illegals don't answer the census. I know that it is a crime not to respond to a census. But hey, they are illegal after all.

You too should learn to speak Spanish. It behooves us all to be multi-lingual. I Speak English, Spanish, German, Russian, and a smattering of American sign, with English and Spanish being my most fluent. My Children speak English, Spanish, U'pik, Tlingit, Japanees and Russian. I know it is a big scary world for you but it you broaden your education you will not be as fearful.

Re: Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
It comes down to economic not cultural bashing why English should be the language of this land. Tax payer’s dollars could be saved if One document did not need to printed in a minimal of 10 different languages or a translator is needs to be hired to explain the document to someone. If you into the enviroment think of all the trees that could be saved if document did not need to printed in many differnent languages.I’m pretty sure that the MAJORITY in this country be it citizen of the United States or other can speak English why shouldn't the rest follow suit.

When my grandparents came here they were given NOTHING. They were on their own without sponsers. Today, all the help they need, and are allowed to come before our own people.

Re: Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
Illegal Immigration says it all. It is an illegal act that should be treated like any other crime. I would charge these individuals as felons and give them 3 years of probation. During the 3 years, they would be required to find employment, keep out of trouble, learn english, and pay taxes. This would allow us to account for them, tax their work, have them pay for the process like any other criminal, and provide them with a path to citizenship. After the probationary time is up, if they have fulfilled their requirements they would be eligible to start the citizenship process. They would be able to send money back to their families, but they would not be able to vote or have representation as they have chosen to take the illegal path to citizenship.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
I agree but after those years the felony should be off their record. I think the citizen test should be given to every person including those who are citizens.

Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
You fools get asked the question "If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?", and all you can say is "Make fluency in English a major priority"!!! Do you have a job? Do you look at your taxes taken out to pay for these illegal aliens that are overwhelming our schools, PRISONS, and hospitals. DO YOU KNOW THAT THEY RECEIVE MORE MONEY AND BENEFITS THAN MY 81 YEAR OLD MOTHER, who worked all of her life!!! What is wrong with you? Do you feel for your neighbor b/c of the job these illegals took from him? Do you care that b/c they don't pay taxes they have put many hard working men and women out of work and caused them to lose there businesses?? You people are clueless and don't even realize what a door mat this country has become. How much garbage do you think 20 million people produce? How much gas and oil do you think they use? When you go to the super market next time and buy a loaf of bread, a head of lettuce, and a gallon of milk, and you spend 10 dollars on your credit card or debit card, think of the illegal in front of you who is paying with WIC for the food and cash for the big screen TV; all b/c you think English fluency is going to help this problem. SHIP THEM BACK, MAKE THEM DO IT RIGHT!!!

Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
Talk about getting a clue. You sound very angry. Its sounds like you need to be educated. All Im reading is that you buy into all the propaganda about immigration and digest it without asking where it came from. You speak of these "illegal aliens" as if there termites and not human beings who have been exploited and forced to come here. You really think they want to live among such racism and hatred instead of their own homeland? Maybe you should read into why they migrate here in the first place. Also, look into what types of jobs these "aliens" are accepting to do and most if not all "citizens" would never consider doing. Plus most of your taxes getting taken out of your check go to many government expenses eg. a very expensive war and you only focus on immigration. Now that's pretty foolish. Next time you propose a decent argument, look at all the facts, not just the ones you favor. BTW: Im hoping Obama will contribute to change and we could have a chance at coexisting with one another without so much hatred, Mr. Anonymous. You sound like a bully who is attacking a group of people for all your frustrations. Pretty ignorant don't you think?

Re: Re: Re: Re: If you could reform the immigration system, what would you do?
You have got to be kidding! take your own advice and take a close look at a place like Mendocino County in northern california! I'm sure you would consider growing a hundred thousand pot plants a great job. Maybe if these people would try getting here the legal way and not sponging off our system we would all be so mad. And maybe you can afford to help support these people but I can't! I have to pay for my own health care and food, pay my bills, and deal with the danger of living here with the drugs and the illegals that even if they get caught will go unpunished regaurdless of the crime. Try living in someone elses shoes and see how you feel!! I would like to add, anytime people like MR. anonyous supply information for their arguement peope like refuse to see it for trusth and come back with stuff like"OH, someone paid to have those poles say that" Get a clue!
