Read the whole story Refugees from Iraq

The Bush Administration has been under pressure to let more Iraqi refugees move to the United States. Now the administration is getting ready to admit up to 7,000 Iraqi refugees by the end of September. But critics say the number of refugees being allowed to come to the U.S. is still too small.

Should the U.S. admit more refugees from Iraq?

Does the American government have a special moral obligation to assist individuals who helped the United States on the ground in Iraq? How many Iraqis should be admitted?

Re: Should the U.S. admit more refugees from Iraq?
Absolutely. As long as they abide by the same immigration laws as everyone else.

No way. Is not natural. Not even close to western culture. At least Mexican and Latins are more aware and in tune with American style of life. Middle easterners are just not natural in these area of the world. Europe is good for them. They feel more comfortable there.

let them come, they are brave to want to come here, abandon their country and start a new life one that cannot possibly be better than they had before we decided to wage war in their country. They will taste freedom of democracy, it would show the world we are not terrible monsters that we can be in our history.

I say if we involve our military in a war that country we are in war with should be allowed priority for its citizens to come here. if we are playing peacemaker and caretaker, why stop at just that war, let them be sheltered more under our laws.

Re: Should the U.S. admit more refugees from Iraq?
No. Why in the world would we want to do this. Let me understand this. We went overseas to do what? Ok. Now, let me see, we didn't find it and then killed it. Continuing on, we went to WAR to fight for what. We didn't say we were going to war to train anyone. We didn't go to war to rebuild anything. We didn't go to war to make another country diplomatic. We didn't go to war to provide civilians with jobs. We didn't go to war to make friends. We didn't go to war to have choices of restaurants. We didn't go to war to run us in the poor house. We didn't go to war to make plans where we should bomb or whatever. We didn't make plans to spend millions of dollars reconstructing our faults We didn't go to war for entertainment. We didn't go to war for unity. We didn't go to war to bring back future or perhaps cells. Again explain to me did our VETS from WWI, WWII, PEARL HARBOR or any other war? Speak on it. Let me know. As a matter of fact the only ones who should have this right or Slaves and Holocaust people. What war is about is pre-plan, hit hard, got to go. We will see you when you walk through the door. War is not for advertising. Boom Boom. You are bound to found whoever you are looking for. The way we are our enemy is probally on line receiving an education, buying a building in the United States, calling in to news channel making comments, or investing in the market in the US. We are so thin that when they come home we will be in a bigger mess of a recession. Where are these guys going to come home to? Where are they going to work? What happens to their mental state, financial status, physical welfare? Marriages are ridiculous on the rise and will get worst. I am not blaming this on the war totally but we are heading that way. Without our military forces here we (US Citizens) can afford to go have fund. Those military forces help the economy by buying clothes, cars, groceries, music, movies, homes, increase building profits and for some become business profits. We are safer when they are here right beside us. We need to be protected as well. I understand we are a FREEDOM country but it is costing us big time. I do not want to see my kids drafted for the service because of this. These guys are tire of this nonsense. Leave it. Those countries have been fighting when Moses said "Let my people go." Do you think they will stop? We just can not afford to keep them over there. We can not afford to DREAM for who will profit? The American people have so much to handle its sad thinking about it.

BRING THEM HOME. Let other countries fight for a change. We are the only country that has more then 10,00 troops. Don't they know they are buying weapons from the ones they think they are being friends with. Let them fight let them fight. They should be the ones who should be speaking out. Maybe they need a fence around their country. I am not totally bad, I do feel happy when I do see them out with their families at libraries, movies, or shops. They tend to stand out a little. I will get tire of bombs too and living without carpet, cable, and dishwasher. And just to think they are snuck witht their kids all day. No, they have to get out and go to school. For some I am glad they are here for the better, legally. On the other hand, no we are not obligated. Who is obligated to us. Are they obligated to see after us when we are sick. Are they obligated to make sure we have pensions, social security, and protected when we shop and go to school. Look what we can do with all that money. ETC.

Re: Should the U.S. admit more refugees from Iraq?
I think we need to ask ourselves - do we want to have an national group within the US who's loyalty is going to be in question? As long as this state of war exists between Iraq and America, we really need to hold off on accepting refugees.
This would be unprecedented. In WWII, for example, Japanese and German refugees were not permitted for settlement. In fact, Japanese were isolated and closely watched. It was only after peace treaty was signed, when the refugees began to arrive in the US. Ditto for Vietnam.
The war is stupid and ugly, but bringing in Iraqi refugees will only make the situation worse.
