Environmental policy

President-elect Barack Obama has pledged to "engage vigorously" on climate change, ahead of the UN summit on the issue. The December summit is a staging post in a two-year process aimed at securing a new climate treaty when current Kyoto Protocol targets expire in 2012.

How should the new Obama administration tackle global climate change?

What kind of post-Kyoto deal should the next President aim for? Besides international agreements what other approaches would you recommend?

Global warming presents us with great opportunities to improve our nation with projects that can not be exported. These include housing upgrades and wind power facilities. One of our greatest contirbutions can be slicing our energy demand and much of this is off-the-shelf technology. Before you increase the energy supply you should always work on slicing demand.

The President elect should follow his own advice while picking his cabinet, that being not to promote "groupthink" and listen to ALL sides of the issue before commiting ANY policy. The other side of this ONGOING debate makes some rational, and hense, not idolistic arguments.
