President Bush says, Iran remains a threat to the world despite new intelligence saying the country may not be building nuclear weapons.
Do you consider Iran a threat to the United States?
Did you think Teheran is now less of a threat after the intelligence assessment that Iran probably abandoned its nuclear weapons program in 2003? Should the United States continue to pursue new sanctions?
ahh, finally someone who is actually brave enough to name our history with iran. iran was not put on the map by 11 september as obviously some think. our world wide covert operations have come home to roost. those who do not acknowledge history are doomed to repeat it.
If George Bush had a brain he would learn something about Iranian history, meet with the President of Iran, and come to a settlement that everybody could live with. If he had a brain.
Yes, anyone with half a brain can see that they are not being truthful about their nuclear weapons programs. They have lied before and will continue to do so. Russia is aiding them as well.

NO NO NO NO NO NO. How about all the illegal immigrants by the hundreds every day that steal american jobs. How about the GENOCIDE going on in Africa???? I support some war, like saving those in Africa, not in IRAN or IRAQ.(Oh yeah that's right...NO OIL in Africa...ha ha ha,how silly of me?"
No. As in N.Korea and Pakistan, possesion of nuclear weapons that one cannot use without being vaporized in response is hardly an asset or a serious threat to anyone.
However, as a means of suicide they are very effective.
As the Cheney Administration gets tougher with Iran, it is helping to bring about what it says it doesn't want:
* Less democracy, as they circle the wagons to repel the U.S. threat
* An accelerated nuclear program
* More likelihood that nuclear materials will come out of Iran
* Less influence of American businesses in Iran, more for corporations from other countries
NO, I think President Bush is still following the model of the Cold War and trying to make Americans think that there is always a threat out there. Before it was Iraq and now it is Iran. He is out of his mind!
How can Iran be a threat to the United States? As of now, they don't even have nuclear weapons. If anything, we are a threat to Iran. Especially since we are considered the world's lone standing super power; and the only country to use nuclear weapons against another country. So why should we see Iran as a threat to us, when we are a much greater threat to them? What are we afraid of?

P.S. We gave Iran an advantage by (1) overthrowing their number one enemy -- Saddam Hussein; and (2) mishandling the Iraqi war so as to lose international respect and trust.
The United States is a threat to Iran. Iran rattles its nuclear sabre but the US drops bombs and kills tens of thousands of people. Democracy and freedom has more to fear from Bush than from Iran's president.
As far as WMDs go, I would say a resounding No. However, at the same time, it is clear that they are fighting a proxy war with the United States in Iraq. The extent of the proxy battle is also unclear and its exact details are beyond the scope of my knowledge--aside from the explosive devices that have been traced back to Iran. All in all, I suppose we shouldn't seek sanctions based on nuclear activity, which appears was never an issue--it never ceases to amaze me that we're so quick to trust the intelligence agencies and the politicians who brought us the Iraq war and the Vietnam war...lesson here is that as far as the public is concerned the intel is useless as far as decisions are concerned because if they want to invade they will simply invent the information. Bush's statement about Iran sounds exactly like the kind of statements he issued before invading Iraq - he always labeled Iraq as a threat, despite all of the evidence pointing to Iraq's innocence. I think Bush is trying to continue the war and extend it against Iran as well as Iraq. He said himself, "I'm a war president!"
I don't think Iran, by itself, is a threat to the United States, or anyone else. Iran is a threat because of our bullying, self-righteous and domineering foreign policy. We are creating enemies, not friends, and this really needs to turn around.
The US, on the other hand, is a major threat to Iran's security: we've helped depose their first elected leader (Mossadegh in 1952) and we supported Saddam Hussein when he launched his war against Iran in the early 80's.
No, this ideaology that U.S. IS BEING THREATEN BY IRAN is nothing more than JOKE and Mr. bush knows it well. it is a propaganda set by current administration to pre-occupy the american's mind and divert their attention of all the wrong doings they committed in the past 7 years. to my opinion they only threat to U.S. is the WRONG AND DANGEROUS policies the current administration which has pursued all these years. Not long ago Mr. Bush asked the great American nation for sacrifice when it came to war in Iraq and global economy. let me Ask you to ask him this question(s). What has he , MR BUSH, has sacrificed himself. Did any of his daughters fight in either Iraq or Afghanistan? Does he know how much a bag of grocery for a family of 4 , the same size of his, cost? Does he know, on a limited income- minimum wage, how much it cost to fill the tank and work 3 jobs to out food on the table?. ... I am sure he has no clues... or maybe we should not expect too much from a "C" GRADUATE president much.
How in the world can any of us know unless this is our business. To think the average american can know the real story and not the medias version of this world. Only a select few know. Was Iran a threat in the late seventies? We didn't think so until the hostages became hostages. Ask one of the hostages this question. I think you will get an upfront answer that doesn't agree with some. They have been a threat before my question is why noy now but really I don't know.
The overwhelming response here (about 27 of 28 opinions) is that Iran is not a threat to America, that the "threat" card Cheney/Bush have played is intended to keep Americans fearful, trample on their constitutional liberties and mute their voices: before Iran the big threat was Iraq; before that it was Cuba; before that, Russia and China; in the future it will probably be Russia and then China again. It doesn't have any logic unless one views threat-mongering as a strategy to steer huge portions of our taxes and debt into bottomless military-industrial playpens.
While there seem to be plenty of Americans who uncritically buy such shoddy reasoning, thank goodness the correspondents in this forum have keener minds and higher standards.
Iran is no threat to the US or anyone else. Even if it did produce a viable nuclear weapon (I dount they have the capabiliy), just what are they going to do with it? Blow-up a few blocks of NY or DC? and then what - massive retaliation from the US twins Iran with the Moon. Its not a viable sceanrio. The issue remains, and has always been the suppy of gas and Oil to the US which consumes 25% of the worlds energy but only has direct access (ows) 3%. Big problem as we approach "Peak Oil". The GWB approach to this issue is to steal oil through military action, the consequences of which are the unjustifibale deaths of thousands of of US soliers. Did they learn from thier mistakes in Vietnam? No.
