In May 2006 the U.S. Senate approved the construction of fencing along the southern border with Mexico. The move formed part of an immigration bill which is currently stalled in Congress. Here and there the construction of the fence runs into local resistance.
Do you approve of the plans for a 700-mile fence along the border with Mexico?
YEAH.... WELL LOOK AT ALL THE IMMIGRANT TAX PAYERS, YUP TAXPAYERS THAT DONT GET TAX MONEY BACK FOR WORKING!!! IF I AM CORRECT SCHOOLS CHARGE FOR ATTENDING. THE STATE WILL ONLY HELP IF THE CHILD HAS LEGAL DOCUMENTS!!!!! WHAT WOULD AMERICA BE WITHOUT IMMIGRANTS??? IF YOU LOOK AND SEE THEY ARE A BIG HELP TO OUR COUNTRY!!! THEY ARE HARD WORKERS AND THEY DONT COMPLAIN ABOUT WORK!!! GO SEE SOME PEOPLE FROM YOUR OWN COUNTRY AND ASK THEM TO DO A HARD DIRTY JOB AND SEE WHAT YOUR RESPONCE IS!!!! THEY WONT DO IT BECAUSE THEIR LAZY!!!! SEE HOW MANY IMMIGRANTS ARE LAZY???? I DONT THINK YOU WOULD NEED TO HANDS TO COUNT THAT!!! BECAUSE I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THEY ARE NOT LAZY!!!!
I TOTALLY AGREE! Don't hire illegals, rent to them, or allow their children to go to our schools, and don't give them money and help for healthcare. It "IS" a CRIME that they are here! That's why they are called ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS! Until they can go through the LEGAL Channels to become nationalized AMERICANS, then they should be kept out and stay out.
"Don't hire illegals and they will go back home. Make it a crime to rent, hire or allow the children of illegals to attend school, which us taxpayers pay for. I want a refund of my taxes waisted on illegals..

The Romans built Hadrian's Wall some 73 miles across Scotland starting in year 122. This mostly stone wall about 15 foot high and 12 to 8 feet wide, with troops kept my ancestors from raiding Roman England for 300 years. Is the US Mexico border 2,500 miles? What crosses the border besides people are billions of dollars in drugs. The vast wealth of the drug trade has corrupted the Mexican police and I fear some of our own Border Patrol. The third problem is the army of smuggled women and girls for the American sex trade. This sad modern form of slavery is ignored by to many. Mining the southern border will stop illegal immigration and the sex trade by land, yet few will support such defense.
Yes, mines in the DMZ keep down the illegal immigration from North to South Korea, but not from N. Korea to China. Regardless of what you may think from a moral perspective, mines have a history of working very well.
I originally believed all the mine comments to be a joke, but now it appears that some people are taking this option seriously. Don't get me wrong, I don't support illegal immigration, but I do believe that with 'Americans' like you, we won't need to worry about immigrants ruining this country.
That is not the same thing, those students are going there legally. It is the Mexican government's problem if they have drugs available to them when they get there.
I have no problem with people from anywhere migrating to the USA, however, I think they should do it legally.
I'm not sure a fence would make a difference. What people don't understand is that it's not just Mexicans that are coming over the boarder it's Cubans and other immigrants. Why can't the U.S dedicate a spy satellite to that area.
That way they can see for miles and miles.
Thank you
anyone for the fence should just avoid taking those awesome vacations to Cancun, Acapulco, etc., you know, since it is the Mexicans whom you arrogant Americans dont like. Just leave Mexico alone all for once, it is not like they need you....
Oh get real! Illegals swarming across our borders and taking over our cities, flying their flags and treating us like WE are the invaders is the issue! Talk about arrogance! If Mexico doesn't need us, why are they coming here to be supported by US tax payers?
Of course Mexico needs the U.S.Why else would they let companies from the U.S. move their companies there. It provides work. And who do you think will back Mexico up if they're ever attacked?Of course they need the U.S. and in some ways the U.S.needs them.
Yes, spy satellites, and simple camera-outfitted pilotless drone aircraft, are both beneficial and easy to implement. Regarding Cubans, I'd like to add that according to the Cuban Adjustment Act of 1966, any Cuban crossing illegally via Mexico is virtually guarenteed US residency. And Cuba (along with N.Koprea and Iran) is included on the US State Department list of state-sponsorers of terrorism. How ironic! Citizens from a state-sponsorer of terrorism nation can walk into the US, and we can do nothing about it.
So it's not just a fence that's needed - but also the brains to use the fence.
The illegal's just don't get it !Signs @the BOrder!!! You are in violation of Federal and state law's trespassers will be shot! It's posted @ military installation's why not the boarder. also i agree with one of the other reply's put mines on the boarder.
It won't help. Why doesn't Washington try asking, promoting, encouraging even pressuring the Mexican govt. to improve economic conditions there so that people will stay home?
The U.S. won't ask Mexico to improve economic conditions because the U.S. corporations depend on their woeful economic conditions. This thread is full of ignorance and racism. If you really want to do something about this issue, stop spending your money at companies that hire them. Stop supporting companies that are leaving the U.S. for cheaper labor in Mexico, India or China. If you shop at Wallmart, for instance, you have no right to complain.
