President Bush says, Iran remains a threat to the world despite new intelligence saying the country may not be building nuclear weapons.
Do you consider Iran a threat to the United States?
Did you think Teheran is now less of a threat after the intelligence assessment that Iran probably abandoned its nuclear weapons program in 2003? Should the United States continue to pursue new sanctions?
I think the Iranians are not a threat to anyone including the US. The American government acts like it is full of schizofrenics who are always looking for war. It is so very stupid, the dominance of America in world affairs needs to be culled because America's leadership acts like spoiled brats.
Absolutely not. We just need someone to strong-arm and Iran is the choice right now. We need to make Iran look tough so that people will buy into the fallacy that we have to stay in Iraq lest Iran take over. It's all crap.
No. Most of the so-called threats to the US are the regimes or some individuals in the regimes who unfortunately have authority or influence. The general populations aren't anti-american. Look at what regime-change could accomplish in many of the countries we consider threats. The regime of Iran is said to sponsor terrorism. Remove the regime and replace it with a benign regime and terrorism is no longer sponsored.
How exactly do you think that is going to happen? Is there a magic wand that the US can wave to replace the government of Iran? "Regime change" is barely working in little Afghanistan. It doesn't work at all in Iraq. Iran is much stronger and more cohesive now than Iraq was five years ago. Get real.
Unfortunately there is no magic wand. If we would stay the hell out of
every one elses business and concentrate solving our own problems
the rest of the world might profit by our leadership.
Yes, the Iranian government has stated unequivically that the destruction of Israel and all Jewish people is one its most sacred goals. Any country that is determined to destroy another country or people is a threat to peace. I also find it amazing that the same people who want us out of the middle east are the same who complian we are not involved in Darfur. Whether or not toops are committed should remain with the Preisdent and Congress. How troops are committed to a situation should ultimately decided by the military and not civilian intelligence officials or politicians who have a monetary stake in the outcome.
A greater threat is Saudi Arabia--the most repressive dictatorship in the region, the home country of 14 of the 19 9/11 hijackers, and the main financial contributor to Al Qaeda. The promulgation of Wahabism by the al Saud family has done more to bring us to this point in the world crisis than any other factor, including the U.S.'s unquestioned support of any and all Israeli policies. Let's try multilaterialism on Iran with sanctions and try to finish at least one debacle before we start another.
No, I do not. I believe that GWB is chomping at the bit to get one more war started before he's out of the office. Whatever happened to diplomacy? Whatever gave our country the idea that everyone else on this planet wants to live like us? Will anyone ever realize that Muslim philosophy and Christian philosphy and even Jewish philosophy are three different things? In the meantime, our young men and women are being maimed both mentally and physically and are being killed. For what? For what? With the kind of technology we have today (and how it's shown to work on popular action movies), why haven't we found Osama Bin Laden? Can anyone answer that one? I bet you $1 that on or about December 25, 2008, Osama will be captured (if not killed) and the media explosion will be one more trump card the GWB administration will use in its weak and pathetic excuse for war. What are we doing to take care of the war wounded when they come home? How many more homeless veterans are there going to be out there on the streets of America? So many, many questions and no answers.
Iran is absolutely NOT a threat to the United States, and never has been. The United States began hostilities in 1953 when the CIA overthrew the democratically elected government of Iran, and installed our puppet, the Shah, a brutal dictator. His overthrow in 1979 was a rightful action by a long abused population. The United States has been an imperialistic power for over a hundred years, overthrowing foreign governments, installing puppet regimes for strategic and economic purposes. The fact that we have been attacked by terrorists is simply a normal reaction to this past behavior. Every country that has practiced imperialism and subjugation (Britain, France, etc.) in the past, has suffered terrorism in response.
Iran has never attacked the United States, and Iranian support of outlying groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas is no different than United States sponsorship of similar groups in many countries (El Salvador, Nicaragua, Cuba, Chile). The United States is simply continuing its imperialistic policies, and seeking strategic hegemony in the middle east, which the United States should NOT be allowed.
I consider the United States a threat to Iran and the rest of the world. The United States is the world's bully, fully armed with a massive store of lethal weapons of mass destruction, with military bases spread all over the world in order to control the world's resources. It is the United States that must be stopped. There is no threat to the US from Iran unless the US continues its malign threats against Iran.
No, Iran is not a danger to us. Nor was Iraq. But looked what happened. Ever country in the whole should be afraid of the U.S. We can create the evidence to prove anyone is a danger then attack. What has the attack on Iraq gotten us. Why are we the world's police force. All of our friends should be paying us for protection, otherwise we should invade.
I thing united states shuled chakin in to adection center for its adection to (oil)in order not concedering any cuntery with a drup of oil as threat.an old news that is not mantioned in any news is that as of 2007 ,iran had predected that doller is going to drup in the worled market and therfor iran was not going to exchang oil for dollers any more.
and as of last year united ststes has been pushing for sanctions and threats.
iranans new the market beter than ouer econmest,i wish insted of trying to wypthem out we could get some constructive adice.
The logical answer is it is not a threat. And what constitutes a threat to USA. This needs a proper explanation because militarily the whole of the middle east and africa combined cannot wage war against us. Iran is a signatory to the NPT. It is under inspection and scrutiny by
the IAEA. It has been passed the most stringent checks. It voluntarily suspended its programme for 2 years. The intelligence assessment of US intelligence agencies on which we spend billions has also come to the same conclusion. IAEA has also not accused it of any wrongdoing.
There are many countries in the world with nuclear power facilities. There are many countries in the world who have concluded that clean nuclear energy is the answer to the quest for power.
The advanced countries of the world will build those nuclear facilities for them . So what is the reason behind the rage of enforcing sanctions when that nation is willing to talk
on the subject.
On the other hand till now India did not sign the NPT it still has reservations about it meaning its military facilities are not subject to inspection and yet we cart nuclear fuel to
them and consider their vote important. So is the case with Israel . Are we going to bust down every judicial process and make a mockery of justice . In that case we will have no recourse to law, fairness, treaties in the future . On the use of nuclear arsenal uptil now only we have used it against Japan when the war was already decided in favor of the Allies.
Currently, we are threatening to use nukes against IRan. We have lately seen many lapses in the security of nuclear assets. It is important that we talk to IRAn and review the whole
subject judiciously, impartially, and with the attitude of leaders with vision.
Frankly uptil now in that part of the world we have never supported democracy, upheld the special relationships with the kings and the shieks to our whole advantage ( they do our bidding) and we were strong friends with the Shah of Iran. Till the time the power transferred to the people we were OK even in building 10 nuclear reactors for the Shah.
Are we really in the region for democracy and do we actually think we are kidding the world.
We need to lead responsibly , install the best safeguards and actually oversee the
interests of the oppressed people of the world to be recognised as the Great Nation our pioneers envisaged and the image our country men strongly believe in.
Iran is most definitely a threat to the United States. I'm not saying that there's a good guy or a bad guy, but the reality is that if Iran develops a nuclear arsenal that the United States is in definite danger. We all know why Iran is a threat, so I won't go into detail about that (the Bush Administration is an utter failure in the face of world relations), the question at hand is what the hell are we gonna do about it? Do we fault the Iranians and attack? Or do we exorcise our economic weight as a world power and force a peaceful outcome through democratic means? America has more economic power in the world then any other country, but we choose to throw it away in favore m-16's and smart bombs. Violence begets violence, and right now there's no better example of that then Iraq. This tragedy is something that neither the US nor the world can afford to undergo again, and any one who tells you different has a hidden agenda (The Bush Administration), or is just plain stupid (my neibore).
I consider Iran a threat only to itself and its neighbors. Some day in the future their would be and accident similar to the one in Russia and all they create is chaos and destruction in the region.
