Tell us your Signs of Spring!

Blackbirds and Robins on Easter Sunday
Yesterday (Easter), I saw 3 Red-Winged Blackbirds and a flock of Robins foraging for worms in Bennington. Also, the Maple sap has been running down here for a few weeks, now. The earth has begun to be pliable, and we have snowdrops, daffofils and other bulb plants poking through.

Grouse in Huntinton
Last weekend we saw a grouse drumming on a ledge outcrop in our yard in Huntington. We assume it was the same fellow that drummed at least once a week in this same spot all last summer - he got an early start this year!

weeds?
I was comparing 'sign's of spring' w/ my fiance this past weekend. I mentioned I had seen a robin, a pheasant and a flock of geese here in Bridport...and he told me he said that was nothing! He saw the first ads on TV for Round-UP! Can you believe it? ...are there really weeds under all that ice? happy weeding! haha!!

"Peent"! The woodcocks have returned. Two began their arial displays above my pasture (despite a thick blanket of snow) on Sunday evening March 23rd shortly after dusk.

Re: Tell us your Signs of Spring!
I went out to my garden Easter Sunday afternoon and in spite of over a foot of packed snow in which I did not sink, I walked over to my bee hives and found one had bees flying out in the front doing their, shall we say, "spring cleaning." Although the other two hives did not survive I was most pleased that this one did. That foot plus of snow needs to disappear soon as I have two packages of bees arriving from Georgia in less than a month! No flowers yet, but bees. Newfane Hill, Newfane, Vermong

Redwinged Black Birds in Westford
Hello there, I wanted to let you folks know that I heard Redwinged Black Birds in Westford VT yesterday. I was at a cabin at the edge of a field where some old apple trees were growing and there was a brook wandering past.
The birds must be familiar with the good territory there!
