Re: Is Vermont's identity changing?

In response to the question about people who earn more coming in to the state and the effect that it has on the state. I would like to say that while they do add a lot for the economy and so forth, it should be noted that on the flip side to this these people are driving the prices up on almost everything. It has been my experience that with the influx of these people it drives the people who grew up here out because they cannot afford to live in the places they grew up. This one of the main reasons a large portion of my peers have moved out of the state after high school/college. This was one of the reasons why my family and me moved from the Chittenden County area to the Northeast Kingdom, because we could not even dream of affording anything in the Burlington area.

Do you think that significant imbalances in a state’s population can have significant repercussions for the kind of services the state needs to provide? And what about the future of Vermont's land? What do you feel are the biggest challenges to protecting Vermont's forests and farmlands that are so much a part of its identity?
