The great debate is on about health care reform in America. But this is not the first time the nation has grappled with the issue.
Health Care Reform in America, Do We Need It?
Health care reform is being discussed everywhere in America right now, from Capitol Hill, to town halls, and yes... even on Facebook. There's no shortage of arguments either for or against reform, and we want to make sure YOUR voice is heard. Tell us if you think health care reform is needed and whether Congress is going about it the right way. We will pass along your comments to our region's Congressmen before the end of the August recess.
I do not mind short term hand ups from government to get people back on their feet. Socialist long turn hand outs that reward do-nothing behavior and should never be a consideration. We need to get rid of all long term social welfare type programs.
Health care reform should about lower expenses, but this kind of reform should be everywhere and not just health care. We must look at what is driving up expenses of services. Insurance, frivolous law suits, corporate greed, excessive executive wages, etc... Fix the system. If health care was affordable we wouldn't need insurance or reform. We also need to get the economy back on track. We need workers earning wages.
We live in an area where most of the people are self-employed or their employer does not supply health insurance. We really need the reform to correct the way insurance over charge for private insurance. It needs to be a government program.
We do not seem to learn from the debacle of the Medicare Part D, where insurance companies and drug companies run that program. The cost has skyrocketed because of it.
As a farmer, we also have the example of the government using insurance companies to insure the multi-peril insurance for crops. They make a killing off of the premiums and the farmer receives very little money in return for the cost of the insurance.
We also need to remember that the biggest reason we have Medicare today is that insurance companies refused to cover anyone over the age of 65. And, yes, it is a socialized program run by the government. It is very disturbing to see the gray headed people yelling about socialized medicine, when they have it through Medicare.
